Jitter Statistics

fs5000 Product Image

The Jitterlyzer’s jitter statistics measurement routines uncover total jitter and BER directly (without requiring mathematical extrapolation). This routine for random jitter (RJ) and deterministic jitter (DJ) separation is included for completeness. This routine is performed on real-life traffic on multiple channels and provides a number for RJ and a number for DJ. The display shows a series of timing and jitter measurements, shown above. The statistics are based on the Dual-Dirac model, and include the following:

  • RJ(s)(ps) : the standard deviation of the random jitter, in ps
  • DJ(ss)(ps): the Dual-Dirac modeled deterministic jitter, in ps
  • Topening(1e-6)(ps): the opening of the bathtub plot at a BER of 10-6, in ps
  • Topening(1e-12)(ps): same as above, at a BER of 10-12
The Topening statistics shown here are extracted from the best-fit bathtub curve obtained from a Dual-Dirac model.
