Summary - FS2338 and FS2343 FBD Channel Analysis Probes

With these versatile products, designers can use their Agilent logic analyzer as a FBD (Fully Buffered DIMM) channel analyzer. The FS2338 and FS2343, coupled with the powerful triggering and analysis capabilities of Agilent`s logic analyzers, provide an extremely effective and efficient tool for debugging, testing and verifying products incorporating FBD memory systems.

Wide, Bi-directional State Capture
The FS2338 and FS2343 Analysis Probes are based on the "Logic Analyzer Interface Mode" of the Advanced Memory Buffer chip used on Fully Buffered DIMMs. This mode allows decoding of the Southbound (from memory controller to FBDIMMs) Commands and Data as well as Northbound (from the FBDIMMs to the memory controller) Commands and Data. The probe can provide a single Southbound frame of 120 bits (10 lanes of 12 bits each) as well as a Northbound frame of 168 bits (14 lanes of 12 bits each) to the logic analyzer. Dual-sample mode is used in the logic analyzer to perform a "double-capture" of the bits as the clock signal to the analyzer (anly_clkp) rises and falls. State Analysis of these frames is provided through the use of a protocol decoder.

Windows-based Control of AMB Logic Analyzer Interface
The probes require control through an I2C bus from the logic analyzer. This control software is a separate application provided with the probe that runs on the 16900 workspace and is linked to the probe thru the I2C ports in the 16753/4/5/6 and 16950 cards when used with the 16900-series Agilent Logic Analyzer frames. This Windows-based application allows user-control of set-up, triggering, store qualification, and AMB Register parameters.

The FS2338 slot probe and FS2343 interposer probe are subject to the limitation inherent in probing the FBD bus at up to 4.8 Gb/s and dependent on the "logic analyzer interface" decode function of the Advanced Memory Buffer chip used as an interface between the FBD High speed signals and the DDR2 DRAMs resident on the FBD.
