Specifications - FS2224 RAMBUS Analysis Probe

Detailed Description

The FS2222 and FS2224 Rambus Analysis Probes provide two functions:

1) The FS2222 and FS2224 provide an electrical and mechanical interface from the Rambus Channel to Agilent logic analyzers for passive bus analysis. The FS2222 connects to a 184-pin RIMM™ connector. The FS2224 connects to a special Robinson Nugent connector.

2) The FS2222 and FS2224 provide provides software to set up the Agilent logic analyzer and to allow powerful state analysis in real time of the Rambus transactions.

The FS2222 non-intrusive probe connects to an unused RIMM socket on the Rambus Channel. The FS2224 non-intrusive probe connects to a special Robinson Nugent connector on the Rambus Channel. Even though the FS2222 and FS2224 will be factory calibrated, it is anticipated that the user will need to make some fine adjustments, so each high speed pod has two potentiometers for odd and even data paths. The pots allow fine adjustment of the data valid window with respect to the clock, to better match the system being monitored. A calibrate switch must be activated during calibration to prevent accidental changes.

The FS2222 and FS2224 are capable of latching the Rambus Channel signals at a rate of 800 MT/s (400 MHz) data transfer rate. The 400 ps setup and hold window and the 400 MV signal amplitude place extremely tight requirements on the design of the FS2222 and FS2224. The FS2222 and FS2224 implement a 2X de-multiplexer that splits the incoming signals into two signal paths at half the speed. The input signals are grouped into two groups, one carrying data signals and the other carrying control signals.

The FS2222 and FS2224 operate in "Synchronous State Analysis" mode where the analyzer master clock is a buffered version of the Rambus clock. The Rambus parallel data is then clocked into the logic analyzer with the FS2222 and FS2224. This allows easy triggering and performance monitoring of the Rambus bus. With the FS2222, probing occurs at the RIMM socket and READ data capture is not reliable. With the FS2224, probing occurs at the Rambus Access Controller (RAC) and READ data capture is somewhat reliable

The software included with the FS2222 and FS2224 contains complete configuration files and a FuturePlus Rambus Transaction Inverse Assembler for the Agilent logic analyzer. The Transaction Inverse Assembler displays bus transactions in clearly understood Rambus mnemonics.

Cross-Domain Analysis
Are you analyzing data in multiple domains? Simply use the FS2222 and FS2224 to monitor the Rambus, and then use another FuturePlus Systems analysis probe to monitor your other bus. We have analysis probes for the AGP, PCI, ISA, VME, VXI, PMC, SCSI, USB, DIMM and SIMM buses. You can create your own custom measurement system, cross-domain trigger between buses, and view data from multiple buses simultaneously in the same display. In a similar fashion, you could connect an analysis probe for your host processor to another logic analyzer card. You could then use Agilent's Software Analyzer (B4620A) to view source code, code execution, and the corresponding Rambus traffic simultaneously.
