Here are answers on some of the more common questions we receive regarding our RAMBUS Analysis probes.

Q.How do I find out what are the latest versions of Agilent logic analyzer operating software?

A. Contact your nearest Agilent Call Center.

Q. How can I probe the CMOS signals on the RIMM channel?

A. There are 3 CMOS signals that are terminated by the probe. They are CMD, SCK, and SIO. These signals are used for Serial I/O operations used by the RDRAMS.

Above is a drawing of the 6-pin header on the probe showing the pin assignments. Pins 1, 3, and 5 are GND. Pin 2 is CMD, pin 4 is SCK, and pin 6 is SIO. We do not do any analysis of the CMOS signals and these must be probed separately with a regular logic analyzer probe. We unfortunately do not connect to the signals that support the EPROM programming of the SPD function.

Q. Can the FS2222 Rambus Analysis Probe monitor the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) communication status signals?

A. Sorry, we do not probe SCL,SA0,SA1,SA2,SDA, SWP on the RIMM probe.

Q. I've just read that your FS2222 doesn't support READS? Do you have something for WRITES and READS?

A. Because the FS2222 monitors the Rambus Channel in the middle of the channel, it is almost impossible to see READ activity at that point. The closer you get to the RAC, the higher probability you have of seeing READ activity. We have another version of our Rambus Analysis Probe, the FS2224. This probes a special socket connected to the Rambus Channer near the RAC. Although READ activity is still not guaranteed, you have a much higher probability of seeing it at this point. Also, you can test the Rambus Channel fully loaded with RIMM's. If this is not an option for you, many of our customers are monitoring the READ acitivity on the Frontside bus or the PCI bus.
