Frequently Asked Questions - Agilent 16700-series Logic Analyzers We occasionally get questions about using the Agilent logic analysis systems, the 16700 and 16702. We have highlighted some of those questions here, but for full support of these products please contact Agilent. Q: When using the Agilent software redemption site to access my software license I get an error message in red that says, "Invalid Host Id". Yet I have copied the Host Id direct from the Agilent OLV software and pasted that number into the Host Id field of the redemption site. What am I doing wrong? A: The Host Id number must contain eight digits. Occasionally a PC will provide a host id number with only seven digits. Should this occur simply add a zero as the first digit in the Host Id and your license will be issued. Agilent is in the process of modifying their redemption site to provide these instructions automatically if the error message occurs. Q. How do I find out what are the latest versions of Agilent logic analyzer operating software? A. Contact your nearest Agilent
Call Center or you can request a FREE
copy of the 16700/702 system software from Agilent.?This site also
has release notes so you will know what has been updated. Q. When upgrading to OS A.02.30.00 and any one of the four following packages are installed- FS2007, FS1104, FS1105, FS1106 we lose the icons. A. When you check to see what is installed on the machine, it shows these packages are installed. However in the workspace the icons are gone. To get them back, you must remove the package first. For example, would have to remove the FS2007 package first, then re-install it. Then the icon would appear and function correctly. Q. Why are some of your products supported only in the 16700 or 16702? A. Customers have been asking for several new features that we were not able to implement in the 16500 system or the 1660 and 1670-series of desktop analyzers. Agilent has responded to these requests with a much more powerful and versatile system, the 16700 and it's cousin the 16702. We are now able to add features to our products that will only be supported in these systems. In some cases we must only use the new systems because the older systems do not have the features we need to provide customers with the proper solution for a particular bus. An example of this is the FS2222 Rambus Analysis Probe. Q. What's different about the 16700B and 16702B? A. As digital designs get more complex, you need advanced performance and functionality in your logic analyzer. At the same time, you need a logic analyzer that is easy to learn and to use every day. With an innovative touch screen and hot keys, Agilent's new 16702B is designed to help you get the answers to complex debugging problems quickly. A 12.1" diagonal display on the 16702B allows easy interpretation of large amounts of data. A 9 GB hard drive, 10/100 BaseT LAN, and 128MB system RAM are standard in the 16702B. Q. Will I require any software changes to use the 16700B or 16702B? A. Yes. See individual product pages for details. Q. What is the difference between the 16750A and 16750B modules? A. The 16750A logic analysis module has been discontinued and has been replaced by the 16750B. Features and specifications of the 16750B are identical to the 16750A. 16750A and 16750B modules can be combined in multi-module sets. 16750A data and configurations files are compatible with the 16750B. Q. How does the Agilent "Eye Finder" technology work? A. To make reliable state measurements, a logic analyzer needs to sample stable data. As bus speeds increase, the time when data is stable decreases, so adjusting the setup and hold window of the logic analyzer becomes more critical. Jitter, skew, and pattern dependent inter-symbol interference also make the window smaller. The new "eye-finder" technology solves this problem by automatically adjusting the setup and hold window on each logic analyzer channel. Eye finder ensures the highest confidence in accurate state measurements on high speed buses because it aligns the setup and hold window on every channel for optimal data capture.
