Frequently Asked Questions - Offline Analysis
This page provides answers on some of the more common questions we receive about offline analysis.
Q. What is Offline Analysis on the 1680, 1690, and 16900-series logic analyzers?
A. Offline analysis provides the ability to load and analyze a captured trace without requiring the instrument or acquisition hardware. Offline analysis works with canned data shipped with the product or with the data obtained from an acquisition on the logic analyzer. You can also use offline analysis to create configuration files to be used with the logic analyzer hardware. All software features work exactly like they do on the logic analyzer.
NOTE: You have the ability to define triggers while working offline, however, if you press run you will not capture new data. The trigger position shown in the data is arbitrary if you press run. If you load a trace taken on a logic analyzer, the trigger position will be correct unless you press run while working offline.
Offline analysis is very important for customers who want to analyze previously captured traces while the analyzer is left running to capture an elusive crash that may take days to occur.
Q. What is required to do Offline Analysis for Agilent 1680, 1690, and 16900-series logic analyzers?
A. A Desktop PC running Windows NT, 2000 Professional, XP, or XP Pro is required to do Offline Analysis. You do not need to use a logic analyzer for the analysis, only for the data acquisition.
The software for offline analysis is the same as the instrument software. There are three methods for getting software:
The software can be downloaded for free from the Agilent web site. Customers who purchase a 1680, 1690 or 16900 series logic analyzer receive a CD-ROM with the product. The CD-ROM contains the logic analysis application software that is same for the instrument as well as for offline analysis. Simply install the software onto a PC running Windows NT, 2000 Professional, XP, or XP Pro. Once installed, you launch the application. In the lower right hand corner of the screen you will see ‘Offline’ in red. This designates that you are in Offline analysis mode.
Windows NT, 2000 Professional, XP, or XP Pro are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries.
