DDR3 Detective™
DDR3 Protocol Compliance and Performance Analyzer
For Use With Tektronix Logic Analyzers and Oscilloscopes
New State Output and Internal State Listing Options Released
The FuturePlus DDR3 Detective™ looks for DDR3 Bus Command activity that breaks the rules of the DDR3 JEDEC bus specification. The problems may only occur infrequently and threaten data integrity. These defects can lead to system problems that may not be obvious until later in the product cycle when there is a wider population of devices and configurations. Catching these compliance failures and identifying their root cause early is the key to fixing them before silicon and/or firmware becomes widely disseminated.

Example 3 - The need for SPEED - a compliance failure of tFAW
The new FS2450 State Function Output includes additional output connectors on the DDR3 Detective that connect to the Tektronix logic analyzer with cables that are included. This feature is most important when using the BGA Interposer. The A/C/C signals from the SDRAM are not double probed, so the State Output Option allows further A/C/C signal analysis with the logic analyzer.
The FS2450 brings the follow signals to the Tektronix logic analyzer:
- 26 bits of signals captured on the DDR3 bus:
RESETn, A[15:0], BA[2:0], CKE, CSn, RASn, CAS, WEn, ODT
- 7 signals generated by the DDR3 Detective, plus 4 spares available:
PV, PCHECK[5:0], NEW[3:0]
Included software running in the logic analyzer decodes the signals from the DDR3 Detective into easily understood DDR3 mnemonics.
Internal State Listing Option
The new FS2420 Internal State Listing Option allows the user to observe up to 8K of bus traffic without connecting a logic analyzer. The FS2420 includes a firmware upgrade to the FS2400 DDR3 Detective, plus a User Interface that runs on a PC. The User Interface allows the user to select various triggers and store qualifications to help manage the available memory. Another selection allows the user to determine which signals will be displayed.

The FuturePlus DDR3 Detective offers a better way to run Compliance Testing.
The DDR3 Detective looks at all the DDR3 bus traffic continuously and as long as required, while analyzing all behavior in real-time. Over 50 Protocol Compliance Tests are run in real time over all banks and ranks that total 465 individual checks, yielding a much more efficient debugging process. The DDR3 Detective provides a Trigger output to the LA, and also a rich set of Compliance and Performance information in it’s display. The DDR3 Detective has 3 different use models. Each one provides different levels of information to the Logic Analyzer (LA)Violation Trigger only no trace connection
- Compliance Testing, Trigger only no trace connection
- Compliance Testing, with all DDR3 signals from the main slot interposer to the LA
- Compliance Testing, with Address/Command/Control from the interposer to the LA
A satellite interposer for Slot two inclusion can be added to any one of the above.
