Frequently Asked Questions
DDR3 Detective™
Protocol Compliance and Performance Analyzer
Agilent Logic Analyzer Support
Q. Is there any power drawn from my system?
A. No. The DDR3 Detective includes an external power supply.
Q. When would I need the Satellite Interposer?
A. Some of the signals the DDR3 Detective needs to make every possible test are on the second slot. If you are using the second slot and wish to make all the tests, you will need the Satellite Interposer.
Q. Why would I need the Interposer that adds the DQ/DQs signals?
A. The DDR3 Detective does not need the DQ/DQs signals to perform the protocol compliance tests. If you wish to see the DQ/DQs signals on the logic analyzer, however, you will need the Interposer that adds these signals.
Q. How do I use the BGA Interposer?
A. First you will need to purchase one of the BGA interposers from Agilent or their distributor. There are two versions, the W3631A BGA Interposer for X16 SDRAM’s and the W3633A BGA Interposer for X4 & X8 SDRAM’s. The FS2425 cable will fit either one. You remove the SDRAM from your target, solder the BGA interposer on top of the Ball Grid Array, then replace the SDRAM. Connect the cables to the DDR3 Detective and you are ready to make measurements.
Q. Why would I need the FS2455 State Output?
A. The FS2425A BGA Interposer Adapter cable brings the A/C/C signals to the DDR3 Detective, but it is unable to bring those same signals to the logic analyzer. The FS2455 State Output feature brings the A/C/C signals to the logic analyzer from a special output connector on the other side of the Detective. Included software running in the logic analyzer decodes these signals and provides a display of the bus protocol being executed.
Q. Why would I need the FS2420 Internal State Listing option?
A. Suppose your colleague is using the logic analyzer, but you want to continue to debug a protocol violation problem. With the FS2420, you have 8K of trace listing that you can use to look at the bus activity around the protocol violation. You can use the Detective GUI to select the violations that you are interested in, and also trigger on the bus activity. Store qualification selections allow you to manage exactly what gets stored in the trace listing, and you can also control which signals are being displayed. Click on the Features tab for more details.
Q. Can the DDR3 Detective™ GUI run on the logic analyzer?
A. Yes, though not required. It does not interact with the logic analyzer operating software.
Q. Can the DDR3 Detective™ be used with a Scope?
A. Absolutely! You connect the Detective Trigger Out to the Trigger In of the Scope. The scope is now triggered at the time the Violation occurs.
Q. How do I find out what are the latest versions of Agilent logic analyzer operating software?
